Random Collection of Pictures February 2026

February involved a significant hair cut - my long hair cut off in preparation for a March online paralegal presentation! I was reading a book of great interest so there are two snippets from the book I wanted to share.

Doctor visit to the cardiologist -- all good! Wearing my Bomb Pop beanie I got while in LeMars.

Captured this beauty of the Chattanooga sky with a gleam of sunlight.

Came across this picture of Fort Negley in Nashville. We drove by this a lot moving things out of the old PTA office into storage. Still have two pins to give to someone. The fort did its job protecting the Cumberland River in Nashville in the 1860s.

I wanted to visit this taco shop, Nacho Libre, but it closed down before I had the chance.

Rock Island railroad played a huge part in Kansas moving grain and stuff. An old map of the former train railways. 

Ran across this post about Gusti's restaurant - a frequent stop of my friends and I during my days living in D.C. I still have a  napkin from the lounge which is also pictured.

Maybe some day I'll get to see this in person.  Or I'll just enjoy the pictures and the narratives instead.

Read a book about the Kaw and its tributaries. Some good stuff that I never knew about. The first snippet is about Big Creek and Hays. I was not aware that many fish were documented but now the creek is disconnected and not the same.

And this snippet about Downs and rural life in general.

I created a display at the end of February for March and women's month. I received so many compliments and high praise from administrators. Farm Life, Ranch Work, Women Pioneers. I put pictures I took from around Kansas and Tennessee and placed them around the edge of the display. Pretty pleased with the result!

Random Collection of Pictures January 2026

Happy New Year! We started out with a sherbert punch and hor d'oeuvres for the new year! And traveled to Cookeville on January 3 for a donut run to Big O's and Ralph's!

 

I organized a display to recognize 20 years of the library blog. Guess who wrote the first blog post 20 years ago for the library? Me! So I was recognized on our library instagram as well.

 

We had a fun visit from grand-dog Pixel and her mommy during January! That was fun!

One of my pet peeves about time zones is that there are counties placed in the wrong time zone. Thankfully I found this image that indicates the counties highlighted in red that should be shifted westward in time. For example, Chattanooga and Atlanta should be in the Central Time Zone. The Texas panhandle, OKC, Hays, Grand Island should be in the Mountain Time Zone. Not too many counties need to be shifted to Pacific Time Zone - mostly in Idaho.

 As a person who studies maps for fun, I have found Interstate 29 to be pretty much a stateline hugger. This image validates my view. I drove I-29 a bit during my undergraduate years in Iowa -- South Dakota and Iowa primarily.

 I caught this train silhouette while on campus - a very common sight during the winter and the leaves are not blocking the view. I used this picture for my park and recreation month slide show for campus.

 

Random Collection of Pictures December 2025

December 2025 included a Christmas gathering in Chattanooga at our little house! But more about that in a different blog post on my WordPress site. This is random collection for December 2025!

December 6th was an up and down day - going up and and then back down Lookout Mountain lol! We visited Point Park for free thanks to my Lifetime Senior Pass. If you are a senior and visit national parks, well worth the investment.

The view from Point Park is always outstanding and different in each visit. Then we went to our ye olde local watering hole for lunch and assorted beverages. 

Chattanooga has a tv meteorologist who lives on Missionary Ridge and he always provides the interesting angle from his house of the sun for Summer Solstice and Winter Solstice using Lookout Mountain as the focal point. 

Quite the swing with summer solstice way north of the tip of Lookout Mountain. And the revelation that it gets dark quick during the winter in the valley with the mountain blocking sunlight.

As always I get my Apple top artists played for the year from my Apple Music account. Dolly Parton topped my list!

We had our paper stockings strung up for the library staff again this year!

I do a lot of family history research. This is a good graphic of each of our genetic data map.

And Christmas pasts are tied to so many memories - we miss the people who made Christmases magical for us.

Celebrated Gina's birthday! A beautiful day within the Southern Appalachians region near Chattanooga!

Not true anymore but sure was fun when Alexa could be programmed for this! Now so many changes can't do anything fun with Alexa Echo.

Beautiful sunrise in the neighborhood at 7 am!

I thought this was really interesting - I seen these different branding names but did not know why. I grew up seeing the Indiana Standard sign in town.

Huge disruption at work as walls were removed and everything moved out of the offices for an unannounced window sealing treatment. Just poor poor communications.

November is Indigenous Peoples/Native American Month and this was one of my two displays for the month. 

Read a book about the Kaw River - really interesting description here of the middle country between the Republican and Smoky Hill Rivers. This would include the Solomon valleys.

Began experimenting tucking my long hair through the back of my cap. Short experiment lol.

Here we go with random pictures from my phone for the month of October 2025!

We drove out to Jasper and the beauty of the Tennessee River was at full bloom! Just stunning!

I finally found a map that defines the Midwest boundaries correctly. Western Kansas is correctly placed outside of the Midwest.

I love the architecture of the Damar church - St Joseph's Catholic Church. I never realized the backyard of that church was farmland.

Dad had mentioned a few times about the cutoff road to Webster (before the lake and "new" US 24). I found a couple of items about the Webster road.

Grocery prices sure were low back in 1969. On sale items at Webster's Supermarket.

A Facebook memory popped up about the difference between managing and leading. Still good stuff.
